About Using Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin

Thank you for taking care of Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin during your Groups visit for others to enjoy just as you have done.

Group Neckerchief/Scarves should be worn by all when visiting Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin at all times.

CONDITIONS FOR USE OF SITE


 

1.      The Leader in Charge may get permission from the Site Warden to use a field for games etc.


2.      As the grass here is cut by power mower, it is most important that no pegs, irons, stones, wire coat hangers etc., are left lying on the grass.


3.      No permanent structure may be left on the site, e.g. railings, gadgets etc. are to be taken down at camp end.


4.      Firewood is supplied on site or deadwood may be found in the wood.


5.      The cinders from fires are to be put in metal barrels marked CINDERS ONLY in the fire area.


6.      Rubbish should be separated for recycling where possible.


7.      Firewood and Gadgetwood are to be stored in the areas marked out for them on site.


8.      The Caravan is private and is not to be interfered with, if you require use of the Caravan please ask Site Warden.


9.      Groups are asked to take care when walking/driving on the path from Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin to the Main Gate and the road.


10.  Drivers are asked not to speed on the path to the Campsite.


11.  BLIND CORNER: Care is to be taken when marching/driving out the main entrance gate towards Cappoquin.


12. Vehicles are not permitted on the grass.


There is a fee of €3.00 per head per day payable to the Site Warden for the use site. A booking deposit of €30.00 in advance when returning your Booking Form. Cheques payable to 4th Waterford Unit, Abbeyside, Scouting Ireland. Groups are to have paid their Camping Fees before leaving the site.

Monies collected are put towards the further improvement & developement of Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin.


Rules For Use Of Cabin


1.       A walk through will be done with the Leader In Charge at Check In/ Arrival showing Cabin and Site facilities and ensuring they are in correct working order.


2.       The Cabin must be kept clean and tidy at all times.


3.       The Cabin is a NO SMOKING Area.


4.       Fire Safety equipment is for emergences only and must not be interfered with. Equipment damaged or activated will be charged to the Group using the Cabin.


5.       A Leader must supervise the Kitchen Area when cooking is being done.


6.       Dirty or wet gear/clothes should not be brought into the main hall of the Cabin.


7.       Males and Females should not use the shower area at the same times. An appropriate Leader should organise the use of the shower area.


8.       Windows in the Cabin and only to be used as an Exit in the case of Fire or other emergency.


9.       The Kitchen Area is the only place in the Cabin where cooking is to be done.


10.    Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin or Abbeyside Scout Group cannot be held responsible for loss of or damage to any personal or Group items/equipment including cars no matter what the cause.


11.    Any Accidents must be reported to the Warden and the relevant organization’s Accident paperwork completed and a copy given to the Warden.


12.    No items should be posted on the walls of the Cabin inside or out.


13.    The floor of the Shower Area should be kept dry where possible.


14.    Items of furniture or equipment are not to be removed from the Cabin


15.    Groups must ensure when leaving the Site for any period of time that the Cabin is locked and all its windows closed.


16.    If possible a Leader should be left in charge of the Cabin and Campsite when the Group is offsite for any period of time.


17.    On Check Out/Departure a check of all areas will be done with the Leader In Charge.


18.    All Camping and other Fees must be paid in full before Check Out/Departure.

1.      Permission to Camp on, Hike to, or use Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin must first be obtained from the Site Warden.


2.      The house, grounds and fields across the stone bridge from Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin are OUT OF BOUNDS, except with special permission from the Site Warden.


3.      Fires are to be lit only on the fire sites


4.      The river is not to be polluted in any way.


5.      Please leave Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin in as good (if not better) condition than you found it.


6.   Alcohol is not permitted to be consumed on Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin.

CAMPING:-            Other than married couples, male and females campers will use separate tents which must be pitched with due regard to privacy. Wives and children of Leaders are permitted to camp, but children remain at all times the complete responsibility of their parents.

 
 
 

ACCIDENTS AND DAMAGE: The 4th Waterford Scout Unit cannot accept liability in the case of personal injury to visitors and/or campers, or for the loss and/or damage to their property (including vehicles), no matter what the cause may be.



 

DO’S & DON’TS

 

DO                         Read the Rules and Conditions Of Use of Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin carefully.

 

DON’T                 Cut any growing timber.

 

DO                         Drive slowly up and down the track from the road to Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin.

 

DON’T                 Cut gadget wood on borders of site.

 

DO                         Leave a good impression of Scouting/Guiding in the town of Cappoquin or anywhere you go.

 

DON’T                 Dig any pits on Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin.

 

DO                         If in doubt use your common sense.


DON’T                 Hesitate to contact the Site Warden if you encounter a major problem (non financial – Please).

DO                         Have a good time at Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin.


 DON’T                 Bring a 56 seat bus or large lorry up the path from the road to Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin.

 

DO                         Remember to come back and visit us again.


 


There is limited or no mobile phone coverage in Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin ask when you arrive and check-in where is best to get a signal.

WASTE MANAGEMENT AND RECYCLE POLICY

We would ask all Groups using Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin to remove their waste with them.

We at Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin promote the Recycling of waste and ask all Groups that use Glenshelane Scout Campsite & Cabin to separate this waste into the following areas, Paper & Cardboard, Food Waste, Plastic, Glass, and Tin Cans. Bins are provided to facilitate this. If these bins are full please use plastic bags. Please clean all containers of food before placing them in the bins. Thank You.
